Remember to leave length, width, and weight specifications on your carry-on bag so that airlines will accept it and you can avoid having your luggage lost.

Depending on how much you are travelling with, you may bring a purse, laptop bag, camera, umbrella, or walking stick. Although your personal items must be as small as possible in terms of linear dimensions — 90 centimeters is the minimum — it’s up to you to decide which square footage is best for your item.

If you have an infant and is traveling with a Carry-on, the child safety seat or a diaper bag can also be considered as a personal item. If you are going to use it during the flight, it must be approved by the FAA if you are nonstop to your destination.

Virgin America has a low price point, and they allow passengers to bring their bags on board.

The bags you are checking can not be more than 157 centimeters or 62 inches in linear dimension. Any bag that exceeds these size and weight limits will need an additional fee.

Main Cabin Select

Passengers flying with Main Cabin Select can check in up to one bag under 50 pounds, this only applies when the passengers are boarding at a domestic airport. Any excess baggage needs to be paid for $25 each, and these bags can be checked in for free on international flights.

The linear dimension of a checked bag must be 157 cm or 62 inches. A bag beyond that will incur an oversized bag fee.

First Class

You can carry two bags, no more than fifty pounds and under 157 centimeters in linear dimension in first class for the first bag at no cost. Each additional bag will be $25 USD. For example, a small cosmetic bag might not count against your limit.

Additional fee

If your checked bags weigh more than or equal to 50, you will be charged the $50 overweight fee. If a checked bag is heavier than 70 and less that 100 pounds, you will not be charged anything for it; but if it is between 100 and 170 pounds, then you will either pay the $100 overage fee OR repack your entire luggage.

You will be charged $75 extra per oversized bag, but only if it’s up to 80 inches. This is only applicable for those who check in with bags that are either 62 inches or 157 centimeters in linear dimension.

If you are currently in the military or traveling for work, you can check up to 70 pounds on your bags before you fly.
