Austrian Airlines headquartered in Vienna, was founded in 1957, September 30. The airline made its maiden flight on March 18, 1958: a Vickers Viscount 779 taking off at 8:30 am Vienna local time for London, England. It is the international airline of Austria. Vienna International Airport is its main base.

Leaving Lauda Air as a brand name only for charter flights, the Flight Operations Departments of Austrian and Lauda Air were merged into a single unit on October 1st, 2004.
