Austrian Airlines headquartered in Vienna, was founded in 1957, September 30. The airline made its maiden flight on March 18, 1958: a Vickers Viscount 779 taking off at 8:30 am Vienna local time for London, England. It is the international airline of Austria. Vienna International Airport is its main base.

In April 1969, the Airlines’ transatlantic services began with Vienna to Brussels and in co-operation with Sabena, New York services began initially.OIAG(39.7%), floating stock (43.5%), Austrian institutional investors(10.3%) and Air France(1.5%) was owned by Austrian Airlines.It has a 62% share in Slovak Airlines and also owns subsidiary airlines, Austrian Arrows, and Lauda Air. Leaving Lauda Air as a brand name only for charter flights, the Flight Operations Departments of Austrian and Lauda Air were merged into a single unit on October 1st, 2004.

Partners of the Austrian Airlines group are of four: Austrian Airlines, Lauda Air, Tyrolean Airways, and Rheintalflug. Scheduled flights are focused on by Austrian Airlines. In regional business, Tyrolean Airways has a specialization. With mainly Tourist destinations, Lauda Air rounds off the program. In the future, the Lake Constance region with Vienna and serve other short-haul destinations will be connected to Rheintalflug.
