Northwest is one of the famous Airlines headquartered in Eagan, Minnesota. This airline contains three major hubs in the united states named as Detroit Metropolitan Wayne Country airport, Minneapolis-saint Paul International Airport, and Memphis International Airport. It also contains a hub in Asia from Narita International Airport and also operates translated and Asian flights. It is one of the Worlds fourth-largest airlines in terms of Revenue-passenger-kilometer. In addition to this, the U.S carries more passengers across the pacific than any other U.S carrier. All the branches of this Airline are s currently operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Col. Lewis Brittin was the founder of Northwest Airlines in 1926 under the name Northwest Airways. These Airlines are used for flying mail for the U.S. Post Office Department. In 1928, the airline started its first international route with a service to Winnipeg, Canada. The airline operations were expanded to smaller cities.
In 1931 Northwest sponsored Charles and Anne Lindbergh on a pioneering flight to Japan, scouting it became as Northwest Airline Great Circle route, and proving that flying through Alaska could save as much as 2,000 miles on a New York-Tokyo route. In 1933 it is adapted as NorthWest Airlines. Northwest Airlines joined the war by flying military equipment from the continental United States to Alaska. On 15 July 1947, Northwest became the first airline to fly a commercial passenger flight from the U.S. to Japan. After the revolution of 1949, the flights continued from Tokyo to Seoul, Shanghai, and Manila. Taipei replaced Shanghai. the airline renamed itself Northwest Orient Airlines.
On 1 August 1949, Northwest took delivery of its first double-deck Boeing 377 Stratocruisers, which allowed the airline to reduce flight time. In 1951, Airline helped establish Japan Airlines by leasing its aircraft and crew to the new company. In 1959 Northwest meteorologists pioneered the first clear-air turbulence forecasting system. Northwest remains a leader in turbulence prediction. On 1 June 1959, Northwest took delivery of its first turboprop jet aircraft, the Lockheed L-188 Electra. On 8 July 1960, Northwest put the Douglas DC-8 into service, offering the shortest flight times on routes to Asia. In 1963 Northwest became the first U.s airline with an all-turbofan jet fleet, hence the slogan “NorthWestOrient: The Fan-Airline”.In 1984 Northwest began nonstop flights to other Asian cities, and returned to China. In 1989 Northwest introduced “blowing shoe” by employees and is used for Flight attendants and customer services. On 1 May 1996 Northwest began the first nonstop service from the U.S. to China, on the Detroit-Beijing route.
Among all other major carriers, Northwest became one of the famous and oldest fleets with an average airframe of 18.3 years. This is due to a large fleet of DC-9s dating from 1970-the 80s. In order to extend its life, it exchanged with all new Materialssimilar to those in the cabin of Boeing 717. In the 1990s Boeing 727 is replaced by Airbus A319 and Airbus A320. Airbus A330 aircraft have a personal, individually controlled video monitor for every seat, and AC power outlets for many seats.
